Letter, 1798 Feb. 3, [to] Rob[er]t E. Griffith.

Discussing various legal questions in reference to legalities and legitimacy of Griffith's claim to the "Salvadore tract," [an area now within Greenwood County, S.C., named during Colonial period for Joseph Salvador (1700?-1786)] mentioning an arrangement between Pierce Butler and [William] Blount, [the impeached senator from Tennessee and former governor of the lands south of the Ohio]. Dallas notes an arrangement by which Butler "obtained a conveyance of all the Governor's property, as an additional Security for paying the original consideration money on the Sale of the Salvadore tract," advising him to take certain precautions, and concluding "my mind is still assured of the soundness of your title ... and though you will probably be embarrassed by Maj. Butler's opposition, I think the object worth pursuing."
